Submit your articles to The Journal of Biomechanics and AO Trauma's international journal Injury

26 May 2020

Two leading publications, AO Trauma's international journal Injury, and the Journal of Biomechanics, have open calls for papers for special editions that recognize the life and work of Prof Stephan M Perren. Find out more about these opportunities and learn how to submit your articles, below.

The editors of AO Trauma’s international journal, Injury, are calling for submissions of clinical, basic science, and experimental research papers for possible publication in an “In Tribute” special edition honoring AO founding father Prof Stephan Perren. The special issue will be published in December 2020.

Perren, who was globally renowned for his strain theory explaining tissue deformation as a critical mechanical factor that controls bone healing, died November 21, 2019. He was a strong advocate for the freedom to explore in research in order to discover true novelties that could be developed and translated.

The submission deadline for the “In Tribute” edition of Injury is August 1, 2020. A panel of experts in the field will review submitted papers for inclusion. Authors of the three best articles will earn certificates and the following awards:

First place: voucher for an AO Trauma course in the country of the recipient’s choice
Second place: AO Trauma book valued at CHF 500
Third place: AO Trauma book valued at CHF 300

Papers submitted for publication must be original and not previously published or presented in a meeting. Authors should submit their papers to the Elsevier Editorial System (EES) and select article type “SI: ‘In Tribute to Professor S Perren’”.

Submissions should be no longer than 4,000 words (excluding references) and should include up to four tables and six figures.

Guest editors for the special edition of Injury are Prof Geoff Richards and Prof Peter V Giannoudis. Injury is an international journal which deals with all aspects of trauma care and accident surgery. Its primary aim is the exchange of ideas, techniques and information amongst all members of the trauma community.

The Journal of Biomechanics

To honor the memory of Prof Stephan M Perren, the Journal of Biomechanics is soliciting articles for a Special Issue to be published early in 2021, focusing on those areas to which Perren made a fundamental contribution. Find out more here and below.

Original articles, short communications, perspectives, and review articles are being solicited in all areas of bone biomechanics, from the level of the entire skeleton, down to the tissue level and the level of the bone components, including but not limited to bone healing, bone mechanics, mechanobiology, orthopaedic biomechanics. Papers presenting numerical, in vitro and in vivo studies are all welcome.

Submissions: All manuscripts should follow the standard formats for the journal and should be submitted online at the Journal of Biomechanics website.

During submission, please choose the article type as “S.M. Perren Special Issue” and indicate the type of submission (Original article, Review article, etc.) on your cover page. Manuscripts will undergo standard peer-review. Manuscripts should be submitted before 31 August 2020 for consideration.

Accepted manuscripts will be published online immediately and compiled into the Virtual Special Issue for early 2021. Given the short timeline and limited space, manuscripts will be considered as they are received. Manuscripts that are submitted or accepted after the special issue has been completed will be automatically considered as regular submissions to the journal.
