ARI researcher recognized by TERMIS EU
for outstanding achievements in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine research
01 June 2020
We are proud to announce that Prof Martin Stoddart (pictured above) is the recipient of the TERMIS EU 2020 Mid Term Career award.
This prestigious award is in recognition of the substantial research contributions he and his team have made over the years. After 15 years with ARI he was made Program Leader of the renamed Regenerative Orthopaedics Program, following in the footsteps of Prof Mauro Alini.
The Mid Term Career Award is for individuals that are within 10-20 years after obtaining their PhD. The Award recognizes an individual, who has demonstrated outstanding achievements in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine research, during the midterm of his/her career with setting up a successful research group and clear evidence of outstanding performance.
Martins work spans many topics around the potential use of mesenchymal stromal cells for bone and cartilage regeneration. His studies with complex multiaxial load bioreactors and mesenchymal stromal cells have led to advances in the understanding of mechanically induced cell differentiation.
His work with bioreactors also involved a European Space Agency project that culminated in a low orbit experiment on a Foton M3 spacecraft.
More recently he has been discovering markers that are predicative of human MSC function, offering new opportunities for patient stratification. We congratulate him and his team on this success and are sure more will follow!
